Forkhill fiddle player Breige Quinn and I spent a whole day and a whole night playing tunes with west Kerry box player Seamus Begley in February 2011. The man is a machine. I wound my way home to Tigh Uí Mhurchú with bleeding fingers at about 8 in the morning. I knew Cór Chúil Aodha were singing mass in the church in Ballyferriter two hours later. I’d never heard them. I knew if I went to sleep in the meantime I’d never wake up, and I didn’t want to miss them. So I wrote this to keep awake. There is some water sound as well as the live electronics; west Kerry is inextricably bound with the sea, and this sea sound is from a choppy day in Shetland.
